We’ve gathered together some recipe ideas that we feel suit older vegetarians and vegans, and we’ve separated them into sections for easy reference.
We have included an Easy Recipes for One section because we understand the difficulties faced by those catering for just one vegetarian. A few of those recipes are repeated, with larger ingredient quantities, in other sections. But, equally, a number of the recipes in other sections can be adapted for one. Another way to tackle the ‘catering for one’ problem is to freeze extra portions. Alternatively, of course, caterers can offer a vegetarian option to everyone: many meat-eaters love to sample healthy and nutritious veggie food from time to time and we have been told often that older people find meat free food easier to digest.

Other sources of recipes
It has never been easier to be a vegetarian or vegan, or for those catering for veggies. So many ingredients are easily available to make really interesting and exciting dishes. And there are loads of vegetarian and vegan recipes available in cookbooks and on websites. Some recipes may not suit some individual older vegetarians – and caterers should always take personal preferences into account. But there are so many recipes to choose from that it should never be a problem to provide a varied and nutritious vegetarian or vegan diet.
